What’s your favorite book? Chances are good that someone has tried to ban it. Every year, there are hundreds of attempts to remove books from schools and libraries. Celebrate your freedom to read during Banned Books Week, Sept. 24-Oct. 1, by joining Trails Regional Library for a special program. UCM Anthropology Student, Sierra Burden, will be presenting a program on banned books at the Warrensburg Branch, located at 432 N Holden Street. Sierra will also be talking about current events in book censorship in her program. The program will be presented on September 28th at 5:30 p.m. at the Warrensburg Branch.

This year the Summer Reading Program at the Holden branch of Trails Regional Library included adults. We had Bingo cards with which we encouraged readers to expand outside of their normal reading habits. Each reader completed a card and turned it in to the library and then could pick up a new card. Seventy-five cards were picked up. Several people continued the program with more than one card. At the end of July, we drew one card for a cash prize. The winner in Holden was Fran Yoder who completed seven Bingo cards. She then donated her cash prize to the library so that we could use that money for additional books. Thank you, Fran!

Earlier this month Yvonne Patterson brought her Wings of Love program to the Holden branch of Trails Regional Library. A large crowd of both adults and children enjoyed watching the birds shoot baskets, roller skate and ride a bicycle among other things. It was an educational experience as well as entertainment. Yvonne talked about the rainforests and how many birds are losing their natural habitats due to deforestation by man.
